Machu Picchu

On 24.10., during a guided tour of the city of Cusco, I met Mark, an Englishman, and we spontaneously decided to visit Machu Picchu together the next day. After a long search for the best offer, we opted for a complete package (transportation, accommodation, meals, guide, and entrance ticket).

I was picked up in the morning with a slight delay. We were transported in a minivan, which was fully occupied. It had a lot to offer, including full diapers (which were changed), passengers who got sick, windows that could be opened in some places, seat belts (very necessary!), great music (provided by the driver), and temperature differences of about 20 degrees, depending on the current altitude of the vehicle. But unfortunately, the fun was over after 6 hours.

At around 3 pm, we arrived at Hidroeléctrica. From here, it took us 2 1/2 hours to walk along the tracks to Aguas Calientes (the starting point for the hike to Machu Picchu). This town seemed to consist of 90% tourists. For us, it was just a matter of checking into the hostel, going out for dinner, and then heading to bed.

26.10.017 - 3:30 am, the alarm clock rings. We start our tour at 4 am. However, after 25 minutes, hiking was temporarily put on hold. We had to wait at the first checkpoint, which opens at 5 am. Here, the entrance tickets and IDs are checked in advance. We are among the first 150 people and start the hike shortly after 5 am, always uphill. After 50 minutes, we made it.

Surprise, here we have to wait again, at the second checkpoint. But it's quite pleasant for catching our breath.

After entering, it takes about 2 minutes to catch the first glimpse of Machu Picchu. It's wonderful. The weather is also on our side. So, perfect conditions.

At 10:30 am, we unfortunately had to start our journey back to the bus. After just over 3 hours, we arrived, completely exhausted. But on the way back, we had plenty of time to recover (IRONIC).
