Day 4 - My first day at EducaciónPlus

Diterbitkan: 07.11.2017

Here is the solution to yesterday's puzzle: Dietmar Schönherr. He founded a foundation with a social/cultural focus here in Granada with Ernesto Cardenal. If you're interested, here's a link:

This morning, I met with four other new volunteers and Jim (from the project) in the city. I definitely raise the average age (excluding Jim). All young girls between 18 and 25. We take two taxis to Barrio Pantanal.

Jim is American and speaks worse Spanish than me, even though he has been here for 5 years. Keeley and Monica are also from the USA, they work with Jim on the project. So there is a lot of English spoken here. It's quite difficult for me to constantly switch between English and Spanish. Sometimes (irr)witty sentences come out.

After a detailed description of the project and the people involved, an introduction to the rules and guidelines, we receive our schedules. I will go to classes from 1pm to 5pm and support the respective teachers during the lessons.

The children in a class do not all have the same level of knowledge. Javier, for example, is about 10 years old (I didn't ask) and only knows the alphabet and can spell simple words. Others, some of them younger, are much further along. The class is then divided into small groups, the volunteers receive their instructions and off they go.

That was a bit surprising to me. I thought the "newcomers" would get some time to settle in.

Unfortunately, I don't have a photo for you today.

Or maybe I do, I'll give you something from the local flora and fauna, taken in January/February of this year.

I have to clarify first whether I'm allowed to take photos at the project.
