Today we start early again, we have a lot ahead of us. It is sunny, but still cold as we swing ourselves onto the bikes.
Both of us haven't ridden a bike since the early 90s. Two years ago we bought e-bikes. What a smart decision! We're not super athletes and we don't have time to train much, but we're proud of what we've accomplished here.
Okay, it's a bit crazy, it's too many kilometers per day for our fitness level.
This morning we struggled a lot for the first 2 hours. Our butts hurt, only gravel roads and uphill. That's tough.
The motto on the tour is: "Stop the insect extinction - close your mouth"
So we have enough time to simply follow the more or less meaningful thoughts.
With the many orchids, I think of my parents and know they would like it. When we're in Italy and I constantly say buon giorno!, I think of Conny's parrot Charly, who also says it all the time. Then I remember the Birkenstock sandals. Forgotten - I didn't pack them this morning. Great, there it is again: the self-fulfilling prophecy. I took the worn-out things with me because I thought I could throw them away on the way to save weight. Well, now the decision is made of WHEN I throw them away.
Completely undersugared and in the rush of the beauty of nature, we continue to follow the signs and look for a restaurant for lunch. Unfortunately, the signs are for a detour from the tour, but we don't notice and enjoy spaghetti and a coffee. Strengthened and back on the bikes, we immediately realize that we have to go back several kilometers to the right way - everyone grumbles a bit to themselves and then everything runs smoothly again.
We have tailwind for the last 45 km - well, not directly us, more like those who are coming towards us. After 127 km we arrive completely exhausted at our accommodation. It has nice reviews on the internet, but honestly, I wouldn't stay here a minute without Mario. It's all very creepy, we're the only guests, we parked our bikes in a really spooky cellar where there's also a lot of clutter and bird cages. The poor canaries have little light through a light shaft. Kind of creepy. The furnishing of our room is ancient but clean. I hope we can sleep, because the main road is about 3 meters in front of our window.
Unlike Petra, I'm not quite as worried and I have to stand up for the host: 1. he's really nice and concerned that everything is right, and 2. the lasagna is really amazing!
Tomorrow is already the last stage to Venice - a strange feeling, we want to make it, yet it's a pity that it won't continue...
