Day 19: Monday, August 20th, 2018 Killadoon- Sandhill

Diterbitkan: 21.08.2018

This morning we woke up at 6.30am by a strange noise. It sounded like someone was trying to break into the car. J. quickly opened the door and checked it out. It turned out that we were in the middle of a herd of cows. The cows were only about 2m away from us. We slowly started to rearrange our car and watched closely how the cows reacted. They stared at us but then slowly continued on their way. So we were able to pack everything up nicely. However, since we hadn't seen a gate the previous evening, we were curious how we would get out, as we had not yet seen any free-roaming cows. However, there was no gate - that means there were actually free cows. So we continued driving north and stopped at the next supermarket (about 30km). We bought some groceries and had breakfast in the parking lot. Then we continued on and passed Croagh Patrick, drove to Archill Island, which we also circled, and then continued north to Strandhill. We will spend the night there at the campground right by the sea. After we had visited everything, we went swimming in the sea. However, there were a lot of plants and stones on the bottom, which made standing difficult, so we only stayed in the water for a short time. After showering, which costs 1€ for 5 minutes - 5 minutes can be very short - we went to eat something small and had one or two Guinness / Cider.

After an eventful day, we are now falling into bed.

Mileage: 3,600km

Insight of the day: Always wear shoes in the sea.
