Woche 14 - Bali (Canggu 2.0 + Kuta)

Diterbitkan: 08.01.2024

Originally I wanted to spend all of my remaining days in Gili Paradise. But then Elisabetta from Italy invited me to come to Mt Ijen. This is a volcano in East Java, one of two places in the world where you can see blue lava, and she had planned to book a sunrise day trip from Bali. Since that was one of my goals in Indonesia, but I didn't have enough time to spend the night on Java, I spontaneously agreed and booked the ferry back to Bali. Unfortunately, the volcano was closed on these exact days for various reasons. But I decided to go back to Canggu anyway, where we could share a nice double room with a pool.

Arriving by ferry is also an experience that not everyone can handle, I think😂 As soon as the boat arrives within earshot of the jetty, a bunch of taxi drivers are literally fighting to get you into their taxi. We're used to intrusive shouting by now, but when they climbed onto the boat and still didn't let up when they said 'no taxi' repeatedly, everyone was very stressed. I had cleverly booked a shuttle beforehand. However, while I was looking for the shuttle, a taxi driver followed me the whole time and wanted to load my bag into his car. You really have to be unfriendly, otherwise you won't be able to get rid of them. And just don't get on the wrong shuttle with a fake logo, otherwise you'll accidentally end up in an expensive taxi. But first being able to recognize the fake logos is an art in itself...

Since Canggu actually only has delicious food and not much else to offer, I booked two more nights in Legian. So I'm working my way closer and closer to the airport because I'm flying on and leaving Indonesia at the end of the week. Legian isn't that different from Canggu, but I just wanted to walk through a few other unknown streets again. On the last evening I booked a hostel very close to the airport so that I could easily walk there the next day. Ate one last Indo breakfast in the morning (Nasi Campur - mixed rice, where you can choose the individual components), because the Indos eat rice three times a day:
