Crete Day 16: May 19 - Malia and the return journey

ꯐꯣꯉꯈ꯭ꯔꯦ꯫: 04.04.2018

After what felt like an eternity, the day of the return flight had arrived. It seemed as though we had been here forever. But I didn't want to go home...

Malia

Since our flight was not until 8:10 pm in the evening, we could still spend the rest of the day on the island. So we checked out of Agios Nikolaos and made our way to Malia, where we visited the Palace.

Afterwards, we would have liked to lay on the beach, but unfortunately the weather was really bad today. A rather unpleasant farewell, especially considering the weather had been wonderful the whole time. Nevertheless, we went down to the beach just to have a look.

We also walked around Malia a bit, but it was just a tourist hotspot. That means there was nothing interesting to see. The old town of Malia was a bit quieter, and that's where we had our last Greek meal. Luke didn't mind, he was already tired of the food here. In contrast, I enjoyed my last portion of souziukakia ;)

On the way back, we passed through Gournes, but there wasn't really anything to see, so we continued to a beach right by the airport. The weather still wasn't better, but at least we could spend a little more time by the sea.

It was finally time to return the rental car. Along the way, we stopped for one last beautiful view of the sea from a cliff.

After getting ourselves a coffee, we returned the Polo, which had reliably accompanied us during the two weeks on the island, and waited for our flight to take us back to cooler Germany.
