After a 2.5-hour drive through the South African landscape, we arrived in Oudtshoorn - a 60,000 population city inland. The city is famous for its ostrich farming and is also home to the largest ostrich farm in the world with about 5,000 animals. The visit to the farm was very interesting and we were able to see and even pet small 2-day-old ostrich babies, as well as learn about the creation of a feather boa. We ended with a feeding of the animals.
We then continued to Buffelsdrift Game Lodge. There, we had our first safari ever โบ๏ธ We got to experience a night safari. Most animals are predominantly nocturnal due to the high temperatures during the day. We encountered zebras, antelopes, and slightly annoyed black buffaloes - one of the Big Five ๐ Our guide had a lot of respect for the animals and walked a bit faster past them ๐ The respect is not without reason, as it takes about 20 shots to kill this animal, which is why it is considered one of the most dangerous among the Big Five. The day safari also provided us with a lot of action, with sightings of giraffes, various antelopes, elephants, and even three hungry hippos ๐ฆ๐๐ฆ
Tomorrow, we will visit the Cango Caves, which are considered one of the most beautiful cave systems in the world ๐
