We are using our 'couple time' this week for a hearty breakfast at The Brewery (https://thebrewerylarnaca.com) with a view of the sea. The Brewery would be the perfect place for the Yelp Breakfast Club (Greetings to Dani and all the other Yelpers!). There are pancake towers 🥞, breakfast burgers, heavenly egg dishes 🍳, healthy bowls, as well as sourdough breads with delicious sauces and toppings - if you can't find something here, it's your own fault! And the view of the water is simply stunning!
Oh Yelp! I miss it so much. Although I haven't been as active lately, I miss it now. Sure, I discover new places almost every day. I am now a Local Guide on Google Maps and have also reactivated my Trip Advisor account, but it's not even close to the same. Unfortunately, Yelp once failed to build a community in Cyprus, so this country is virtually non-existent on Yelp. 🤷♀️
Refreshed, we strolled through the old town of Larnaca. For pedestrians, this can be a dangerous undertaking. 🚗 🚙 But it's worth it, there is so much to discover. For example, the little street near the Lazarus Church, where traditional craftsmen are located. Among them are a blacksmith, a chair maker (tsaeres), and a coppersmith. At the latter, we not only acquired a traditional briki for brewing Cyprus coffee (similar to a Moka pot), but Timo even found a traditional flute, which of course ended up in his shopping basket. The old blacksmith was even impressed that Timo was able to produce clean notes with the flute.
Near the Lazarus Church, we recharged our batteries after a while with the traditional (I know, the word traditional is used quite often here) pastry bourekia, which tastes heavenly. It is a filled pastry with a sweet filling of anari (similar to Ricotta) with a hint of cinnamon and lemon. So you have to try it if you ever come here! 😋
That was our morning in Larnaca! Now let's take a quick jump to Tuesday evening when we had dinner with our new friends from Kalavasos. You can find the pictures of the beautiful courtyard above in the gallery. It was the first time we went out with the boys in the evening and it worked surprisingly well. Our friends have a four-year-old and it was important to all of us to choose a location where the children are safe from traffic. We found such a place and it was so quaint and cozy! And the food was delicious too!
