Tausend lights

Yesterday we arrived in Los Angeles after a three-hour bus ride. After enjoying a delicious Italian dinner, we soon drifted off to sleep on our pillows. But before that, we watched the sunset by the sea and enjoyed a cold beer on the rooftop terrace.

With fresh coffee in hand, we started the new day.

Then it was off to the airport. Unfortunately, we forgot to charge the batteries of our cameras. So the excitement was somewhat limited. However, we still saw rare and extraordinary airplanes.

We then continued to Santa Monica Pier with Uber.

During the day, it may seem unremarkable, but as night falls, it reveals its full beauty. Thousands of lights shine at the food stalls and funfair rides, music coming from every corner.

For the journey back to the hotel, we decided to take an hour-long walk. What was meant to be a nice evening stroll turned out to be a harsh reality check.

Where everything still seemed colorful and beautiful to us, we now saw the darker side. Makeshift shelters of the homeless lined up one after another. People sat on the street, their suffering written on their faces.

Huge mansions on one side of the street, plastic tarps supported by cardboard on the other. It was like two parallel worlds. Walking through it and knowing that we would soon go to our hotel with a warm bed and everything we could wish for made us very sad. We haven't experienced such a confrontation very often. But it constantly reminds us how lucky we are, what we have. The things we complain about are trivial compared to the problems of these people.

That's it for today!
