Bula!
our day started on Saturday with the alarm clock ringing at 9 o'clock, because we had to check out of our old room at 10 o'clock and check into the new room. We booked the hostel for two nights. And since our room was fully booked for the third night, we had to change rooms.
But since the room was not ready for occupancy yet, we had to wait a bit. We had breakfast and went to the beach. Around 1 o'clock we finally got the key to our room. We booked a shared room with 6 beds.
When we entered the room, we were a bit shocked. The room was as small as a storage room, with six cabin beds and no space for our luggage, and the room was fully booked. So we went to the reception and asked for another room. After some kind questions and a little smile, we got a new room, a shared room with eight beds. We felt much more comfortable there, the room was much bigger and there were regular beds.
After we settled into the new room, we took the bus into town. We needed new bags for our hand luggage, Mareike needed a new cap because she forgot hers at the beach, and I needed new flip flops because I lost one of my beloved Adidas flip flops in Australia during our campervan tour.
We found everything we were looking for, Mareike found exactly the same cap she lost again, just like I found the same flip flops again, but in a different color.
During the shopping trip, a friendly local man approached us and showed us his own store where he sells traditional souvenirs.
He invited us to drink the welcome drink of Fiji, 'Kava', with him and his colleague. Since we both didn't really know what it was, we only took a small sip, we didn't want to be rude after the man was so kind to us. After the sip, our tongues felt a little numb, but we didn't feel anything else. Afterwards, we went to eat something, I got my eyebrows plucked and later took the bus back to our hostel.
There we went swimming in the pool again, packed our bags for the six-day tour, and brought the rest of the luggage that we don't need to the luggage room, where it will be stored and supervised in our absence. Then we had the famous 5-minute instant noodles for dinner.
Later in the evening, we sat down with two local guys, had a drink, and talked. The guys also told us what 'Kava' is. Kava is a powder dissolved in water that acts like a drug when consumed in a certain amount. 😅 So it's good that we only learned about this drink afterwards. 🤦🏼♀️
Greetings from Nadi, Fiji! 🇫🇯
