After over a week, the first leg of our long journey is already over and we have already arrived in South America, the actual destination of our little adventure. But let's start from the beginning...
After the emotionally challenging farewell from Germany, it was nice that we met familiar faces in Florida and immediately felt at home again. This made it much easier for us to start our journey. In addition, the USA and Florida are already very familiar to us and everyday life is uncomplicated. Therefore, we were able to switch to vacation mode without much adjustment and recover from the intense time before Christmas.
In addition to excursions to nearby towns, weekly markets and small shopping trips, we mainly used the time for swimming, relaxing and enjoying the weather. After recovering from a cold, I (Tim) was finally able to put on my running shoes again and start the 2020 season in the sunshine.
On Sunday, the moment of final farewell had come and with a heavy heart we had to let our travel companions go back to Germany. Thank you again for the wonderful days we spent together!
After spending two more days in Miami, enjoying the beach, city vibes, and shopping, we have now arrived in Santiago de Chile. However, we encountered some challenges along the way. First, we took a 6-hour flight to Lima on a budget airline - without drinks, food, or entertainment, at least there was some time to think about the next blog post. We arrived in Lima at 11 p.m. and then came the first surprise: my (Tim's) backpack didn't make it and is (hopefully) still in the USA and can be sent after. After a few hours that we had to kill, we continued to Santiago de Chile at 4 a.m. There, it took three hours to unload the luggage, but at least Tabea's backpack was there, so at least 50% of our luggage made it the long way.
After taking a first walk through downtown Santiago, we are looking forward to spending the night in a real bed again. We now have two days to explore Santiago before taking a bus to Pucón in the south on Saturday night. Hopefully, this time with all our luggage...
