Today is Saturday, April 14th, but for us it feels more like Friday the 13th! Today, literally nothing went right. Last night, a strong storm hit Vik, where we were staying. We were in front of a hostel and only paid for the use of the toilets, showers, and kitchen. We slept in our camper, although "slept" is not the right word. The wind was so strong that the whole car was shaking. The next day didn't bring any better weather. It was pouring rain and the storm continued. We drove towards Reykjavik and made a detour to the sight Dyrhólaey on the way (which was situated on a hill). That was a mistake! The wind on top of the hill was so violent that it almost ripped off one of our car doors. We fought our way up the hill to see the hole in the cliff. It was really beautiful up there, but almost unbearable with the rain whipping in our faces. It felt like a thousand little needle pricks, so we headed back down. On the way down, we drove through a deep pothole and got stuck with the car. It ripped off a piece of plastic/covering. Two hours later, we also got a flat tire. We had enough of the camper and the backaches, so we decided to return the car one day earlier than planned (today). Of course, we had to pay for the damaged car door, the ripped-off piece of plastic, and the tire! Luckily, thanks to insurance, only a part of it, but still more than enough! As compensation, we bought pizza and chocolate!
