Goodbye Soča - Three countries

Објавено: 21.07.2018

Day 18

Today we're heading home. It's time to say goodbye to the river, the great campsite, and Slovenia.

The campsite was fantastic. Easy check-in (just pitch wherever you want), no assigned spots, clean and new sanitary facilities, washing machines, restaurant, and fresh bread every morning.

I simply drove from Bovec towards Soča (the town) and about 2km before, on the right side, is the 'Camp Soča.' Highly recommended!

I hear that they serve muesli with fresh fruit and coffee. So I quickly unpack and pack up the PalmaEasyAir with routine moves. All set.

Two Belgians are looking for a spot and in English we agree that they can take my spot because it's just great. They are thrilled and lay down on their air mattresses outside and fall asleep. They seem to have driven through the night.

Everything is packed up inside me, we're going home, but I have a feeling that I haven't seen Slovenia for the last time.

I leave the camp at 10:50 am. So far, I have driven 2201km.

I bid farewell to the Soča valley and the Soča river, and it seems like she is also sad. Today is the first day that the sun is hiding behind the clouds, as if sulking.

I roll uphill, uphill, and uphill. One hairpin turn after another, and I get overtaken by many motorcycles. The cyclists are drenched in sweat and are struggling up the hill. Respect!

I spontaneously stop at Mangart and take a short break. The air is wonderful and we are only 800m high. The Julian Alps tower around me, dizzyingly.

We continue - the planned stop at the supermarket in Slovenia is canceled unfortunately because the border to Italy suddenly appears. After 40 minutes! Oops.

Welcome Italy - alright, then off to the supermarket here. But that doesn't work out either because the places are almost deserted, and there are only mountains and rivers as far as the eye can see.

Italy is passed and now we're heading to Austria. Here, I once again get a vignette for €9. I'm soon becoming the vignette king Svensson. In Austria, I finally find a 'Billa' and patiently wait outside. With plenty of wine, oil, and fruit brandy in my luggage, we continue.

Austria presents itself sunny with beautiful green meadows and mountains. Nice - I like it. I have to pay €11.50 again for any tunnels, I can pass through tunnel after tunnel.

After a total of 455km and 4 hours and 20 minutes, and plenty of traffic jams, I arrive in Germany. The sun is heating me up quite a bit. Next stop is Burghaslach. Here, we want to stay until tomorrow to continue the remaining journey home.

After short breaks, I arrive in Franconia/Burghaslach at 7:30 pm. I make myself comfortable in the shade while my driver walks off her tired legs on an evening stroll under apple trees. It's idyllically Bavarian here. After two cool beers in the inn, the day is coming to an end.

Today, I won't be slept in - just a quick shower, a leisurely breakfast in the morning, and then off home.
