Just after half past nine, the best Bundesliga time in Germany, we set off for Grand Haven. Over 450 km lay ahead of us. The route was totally uneventful. Apart from fields, a few rundown places, and a lot of forests, there wasn’t much to see. We made a stop in Manistee, a small town with a beautiful beach and a downtown area that has seen better days. It reminded us of Squamish in Canada, if you turn back their clock by 50 years, that could be the slogan here. We had a salad in a pub, enjoying pleasant guitar music and people-watching.
In hindsight, we might have been better off taking a cruise on Lake Michigan instead of driving along the lake.
Now we are spending two nights in Grand Haven, at the Best Western. After that, we are finally heading to Chicago.
