Reporting on the journey to the airport and the flight itself, I will gladly refrain from. Except maybe how incredible it is how little motivation the cabin crew could muster during eight hours of flying (luxury problems, yes I know). After a very speedy arrival thanks to the extremely well-organized JFK airport, we set out to choose a gas-guzzling monster vehicle that would melt the streets over the next two weeks. Because even though we landed in the city of possibilities, the journey continued immediately to (hopefully) idyllic Ithaca. By the way: Never leave the city without a navigation system! Directions? Not available. Of course, if you can orient yourself with all the creatively named highways and boulevards, finding your way out of the Big Apple is a piece of cake. Well then. On an expected three-hour journey, we tried to occupy ourselves with speed-sightseeing out the car window for the effective six hours. A dream for all botanists! Forest as far as the eye can see. An immense variety of shades of green and no two trees looking alike (I should have definitely studied biology). In between, a lost prefab motel with signs that couldn't be more cliché.
Finally arrived at the Super 8 Motel, it was already time to sleep. A few beef jerky and cheese strings had to suffice for dinner.
And even though we didn't see much: The distribution of energy definitely worked in my favor.
