Ko Samui... The first of three islands in the Gulf of Thailand....
On Tuesday, it was time to move on to the next island. This time, it was to the Gulf of Thailand and to one of the last islands on my trip. It was already the third week of the trip. It's crazy how quickly time flies.
At least I had already booked my onward journey from Ko Phi Phi to Ko Lanta to Ko Samui. So I was picked up at the hotel at 8 o'clock. The mini bus was already packed and I thought, well, it's only 5 minutes to the ferry and then it will be more relaxed. Especially since I was already starving after not being able/wanting/shoulding to eat much for several days 😋.
Well, at least we didn't go to the next ferry, but across the island and then by car ferry to Krabi. Everyone was supposed to get off there except for two people. We were then divided into different buses, depending on the destination, and had 40 minutes. So off we went to the next restaurant to order food. After 2 minutes, someone from the bus came running and said that our bus was already there. So no food again 🙄.
The bus then drove us around Krabi for 10 minutes to drop us off at a central location where everyone from the first bus was already waiting. What logic. We then had to wait again for three-quarters of an hour to get to the next ferry by the last bus. Quite a mess. Then we drove for 2 hours across the country to Surat Thani. From there we were supposed to take the last ferry to Ko Samui. But we had to wait again for 1.5 hours. Luckily there was a restaurant there. So off we went, ordered food, got food, took two bites and then they said... Hurry up, the ferry is already leaving... I seriously thought they were joking... Can't they just tell you that you're too fat and don't need to eat instead of playing games like that 😂
Anyway, the main thing is that you (man) finally arrive and I have already learned that Thai people are not very good at planning. When I arrived at Ko Samui, I was taken to the new hotel and finally arrived. I didn't do much that evening either. I still had to recover from the past few days. On Wednesday morning, I went straight to the scooter rental and off I went to explore the island again. By now, I love zooming around the corners on the scooter 😎.
Ko Samui is really a beautiful island. A nice mix of beautiful beaches and mountains with the jungle. There is a lot of promotion for waterfalls, but they are more like streams than waterfalls. Our self-built dams in the village stream were more spectacular back in the day.
Otherwise, Thursday was still rather quiet. In the morning, I was still on the scooter and organized the onward journey for Friday, and in the afternoon I happened to meet an Israeli who showed me a great beach with access to a hotel pool. So we relaxed the whole afternoon. Anyway, almost everything was closed because today is the cremation of last year's deceased king and all Thais are saying goodbye.
Tomorrow it's off to the penultimate stop.. Ko Pha Ngan..
