At 7.30am, we get in the car and set off for the next big destination. Today, we have our whale watching tour scheduled!
We enjoy our breakfast at a stop in Caloundra at the beach, and we arrive at the new campsite in Hervey Bay in time. We set up our tent and head to the harbor.
Upon arrival, before we are allowed to board the ship, we are informed that due to the weather conditions and rough waves, our ship is the only one setting sail today. Do we accept the risk of four hours of seasickness, dizziness, saltwater attacks, or even shipwreck? Yes, we do. No risk, no fun! The way on board is denied to us!
It quickly becomes apparent that the whale watching tour becomes a whale splashing tour!
Soon, we reach the first spot and get to observe a sweet humpback whale mom with a calf. And the next sighting also consists of a group of mother, calf, and adult attachment. In the distance, you can see the adult humpback whales communicating, and up close, the little ones eagerly demonstrate their learned tricks. We couldn't get enough of these magnificent giants. Time flew by and soon we headed back home, passing by Fraser Island. Kudos to the captain, skipper, and also to the group, as only a few had to reach for the barf bag, despite general queasiness!
Soaked to the underwear but extremely happy, we return to land!
After a restful night, relaxation is on the agenda. We stroll along the beach promenade, sweeten our day at the cafe (never again Thickshake!), and browse in small shops. To at least have some productivity during the day, the routes for the next few days are adjusted to our plans. But that's about it, and we go to bed.
Sweet dreams xoxo
