After traveling through the northeastern part of Croatia yesterday, we crossed the border into Bosnia and as it is not in the EU, we immediately lost internet connection and had problems with navigation. Nevertheless, we made it to Prijedor (the nearest larger city after the border). Slightly hungover and with a queasy feeling in our stomachs (how it came to this will be explained elsewhere), we are now sitting in a gas station, using the Wi-Fi.
Now I want to tell you about the dream city of Ljubljana:
With a little over 200,000 inhabitants, it is the largest city in Slovenia, and one-sixth of the total population lives there (understandably!). We were already impressed by the student city during our Google search and decided to stay there for a few days. We camped at a farmer's place about 15km away from the city for €10 per night. By train (1km from our sleeping place), you can reach the city center in 15 minutes for €1.90 one way.
On day 1, we enjoyed the town with its many bridges, narrow streets, and even from the castle above. We immediately noticed how green and clean the city is. We had burgers and really delicious baby back ribs at the Central restaurant.
On day 2, we had coffee at Café Čokl, which is highly recommended, and for an unbeatable €2.00, you even get two cappuccinos. Then we went to the market, which was right next door, and luckily it was Friday and there was a food market. What a feast! With good music in our ears and a summer atmosphere in our hearts, we had paella and fancy steam cakes (I have no comparison for them). After indulging ourselves, we went for some second-hand shopping, but since our car is already quite full, we just looked around (Basti says I have to get rid of something before I buy something new...). After a quick change of outfit and parking space (€0.40 per hour), we smoothly transitioned to (surprise) eating. A meat platter at 'Das ist Walter'. Basti has set himself the goal of finding a Walter in every country :D.
And then came the highlight in the evening! The Metalkova area. A left-greenish art center with various clubs and outdoor concerts. Finally, a party again, and that at the gay club Tiffany. We danced with cool beers in hand to 2000s electronic music. On this site, we also met a few other German and Czech tourists with whom we spent the evening :) (Because the world is a small place, one of them knew Basti's uncle. They worked together on a project in Hamburg :D).
Happy, exhausted, and drunk, we returned to the campsite around 12:00 a.m. And as you can see, I'm still raving about this amazing city today. Let's see how it continues in dry and not so green Bosnia.
P.S. No idea why the font color changed.
