Entspannter Samstag/Relaxing Saturday

Објавено: 15.10.2022

Good morning/afternoon/evening to all enthusiastic readers of our travel blog,

The first week is over and a relaxing, but also eventful weekend is about to begin, which will be kicked off by a strong victory by Washington High School in the football match.

This day starts for me at 8:00 a.m. with a shower and a coffee. Of course, a small breakfast must not be missing, and since my host student is still asleep, I sit at the breakfast table with my host parents and we talk about the Thanksgiving dinner, which will take place tomorrow.

However, it is not enough to just talk about it, so we start to prepare the stuffing for the turkey. To do this, we tear apart 4 whole toast breads into small pieces about the size of fingertips. My host mother tells me that it is not common to make the stuffing for the turkey yourself, at least not in the midwestern region of the USA, as many people buy the stuffing. But since my host mother is from Philadelphia, which is in the eastern region, we do everything ourselves :).

We are also making cookies today.

We are making butter cookies and they look pretty delicious. And they tasted very good too. It is a German recipe that my family usually uses for Christmas, but this was a good opportunity to do something together and it was quite funny (see proof photo A). We also made glazes in different colors and decorated the cookies to make them look spooky for Halloween.

I am a little afraid of the two hats.

Once we are done, I sit down and think about which classes I would like to visit next week, as we are allowed to explore the lessons. There are so many different subjects that we do not have in Germany, from woodwork to programming to musical subjects and sports activities. Not an easy decision...

So far, I am sure that I want to go to the choir concert and a math class. I am curious to see what they will be like.

Tomorrow is the Thanksgiving dinner and I am looking forward to seeing my friends again. I am also curious to see how the turkey will taste, because I have never eaten it before.

And if you want to know how the Thanksgiving dinner was, you should read the next blog post :).

Good morning/afternoon/evening to all excited readers of our blog,

The first week is over and a relaxing but also eventful weekend is about to start, which will be initiated by a strong victory for Washington High School in their football match.

This day starts at 08:00 a.m. with a hot shower and a coffee. Of course, a little breakfast shouldn‘t be missing, and since my host student isn‘t awake yet, I‘m sitting at the breakfast table with my host parents. We‘re talking about Thanksgiving Dinner, which is planned for tomorrow evening.

Well, talking about it isn‘t enough, so let‘s start preparing the stuffing for the turkey.

We start to tear 4 loaves of bread into pieces about a size of a fingertip. While doing that, my host mother tells me that it‘s not typical in the midwest US to make the stuffing for the turkey yourself, because most of the people just buy stuffing premade. However my host mom is from Philadelphia, so more of the eastern region, we do it all ourselves:).

We‘re going to bake our own cookies today.

We‘re making butter cookies and they look pretty yummy. Well, they also tasted that yummy ;)

It‘s a german recipe that my family usually uses for christmas, but it was a good opportunity to do something together and it was quite fun (see proof photo A). We also made glazes in different colours and decorated them so they looked spooky for Halloween.

I‘m a bit scared of this two hats…

So far I‘m sure I want to go to the concert choir and math class. I‘m curious to see what it’ll be like :).

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Dinner and I will see my friends again. I‘m also curious to see how the turkey turns out because I‘ve never eaten it before.
