After admiring the beautiful sky with the sunset last night, I can take it easy this morning. The ferry doesn't depart until 11 am.
So I wake up at 8 am and go for breakfast. There I meet the two women who served as waitresses last night. They are now having breakfast and we start talking.
Katri (without 'n'), a Finnish student, is currently working at Pellas Gästhem in Lappo. They ask me where I'm from and what I'm planning. Katri tells me that a year ago she lived with a host family in Nieukerk for a year. She went to school in Geldern and speaks German fabulously. What a surprise! Of course, she also knows Kempen well.
Her friend even knows Johannes. It's a small world. We agree that she will visit us when she is in Nieukerk.
At 11 am, I leave the beautiful island of Lappo and head towards Brändö Island. I would have expected the small island to be boring. On the contrary, I really enjoyed it. This is also due to the fantastic weather. I've been incredibly lucky with the weather so far.
When I arrive on Brändö Island, I drive over many small bridges, dams, and islands. I have about three and a half hours to cover the approximately 25 km from the south to the north of Brändö. So there is enough time for a coffee break in a small café.
Brändö alone consists of more than 1200 islands and is located in the northeast of Åland. 470 people live on ten of these islands.
When I leave Brändö, I don't yet know that I am also leaving the Åland Islands. The border is marked by a fairway running from north to south - Skiftet.
I only realize this when I see the sign for Kustavi shortly after the ferry terminal. I am now in the Turku Archipelago, which includes more than 20,000 islands.
Now Finnish is the order of the day, or rather completely English for me.
My cottage is located right at the Vuoneisten Meriasema ferry terminal.
