22.7.19 15:30 crossing from Trelleborg harbor
Mileage: 6550
Outside temperature: 18°C, cloudy
8:30 in the morning the birds woke us up and after a short chase by Marley during our walk in the park, we headed to the harbor to take care of the last formalities for the crossing. We spent the time until departure at the sandy beach and enjoyed the last hours in Sweden. At 2 o'clock we went to the ferry check-in. Despite all the fuss about the length and size of the cars and motorhomes during the booking, no one seemed to care anymore after the check-in or when parking on the ferry. Without much noticeable planning, we were allowed to board the "Huckleberry Finn" at 2:30 pm and parked at the front of the upper deck. Afterwards, we went with all our belongings to the ship's common rooms. We set sail punctually at 3:30 pm and had a 6-hour crossing ahead of us. Finn visited the play area (unfortunately a bit small for the many children) and was very excited about his first visit to the ball pit. Mama and Papa took turns entertaining our rather mobile child. Crawling along the ship's corridors and climbing stairs were particularly enjoyable. Finn's skills in climbing stairs have been olympic since the crossing. As this kind of sport is known to be tiring, our little one took a nap in the baby carrier on Mama's chest for the last two hours and slept through the entrance to Rostock harbor. The crossing was rather uneventful for Marley. He was not impressed by the tiny dog toilet on deck and never had the thought of using it.
Summary of the journey: 6 hours can feel pretty long. We arrived in Rostock at exactly 9 pm and quickly secured the last good parking space near the motorhome parking lot. We spent our first night back on German soil on the banks of the Warnow river.
