After a slightly longer break, we have finally found the pen and ink and can upload more entries. The USA is also known as the land of superlatives, and this is by no means limited to the impressive height of the buildings, the size of the cars, the abundance of people, or even the size of the portions in the restaurants. It also applies to the infinite expanse of the country, in which mountains and lifeless, barren land merge and fill the view up to the horizon. We thought Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania were limited in their attractiveness, but Utah and Nebraska play in a higher league of boredom :) ;). It's incredible and impressive, but after a week of looking at NOTHING, we're glad to have arrived in Las Vegas. Las Vegas... internationally known and, thanks to films like Ocean's 11 and The Hangover, a destination for many Americans and travelers from abroad. The motto is always the same: party and gambling! Las Vegas... a city in the middle of the Nevada desert that no one in this world needs, but everyone who has ever been there would miss it. A city that has sprung up from the ground and has been artificially elevated, where time and rules play a subordinate role.
Max felt the same way when we walked up and down the so-called 'Strip' for orientation after a short search for parking on the first evening. Our parking lot was near the Strip, but in a slightly darker area, which is why we changed locations after the first night. As I said, Max had a grin on his face with sparkling eyes and shook his head incomprehensibly at the same time. His decision was quickly made to start a trip to Las Vegas with friends in the future.
The next morning, we drove closer to the Strip, to a parking lot that we had discovered on the 'way home' the evening before. The European Championship was broadcast in the hotel across the street, the Stratosphere, so we could watch the opening and Germany's games. In the evening, we wanted to go out and celebrate for the first time in America and had a fun evening at the Carnival Bar. The temperatures at night were still extremely high, so we went on the hunt for rhythmic dance music accordingly.
While most men and women in suits and dresses were standing in front of the well-known and expensive clubs in the city, we made our rounds in t-shirts and shorts through the hotels, their casinos, and shopping miles until we reached the Carnival Bar. Long story short - alcohol, good music, crazy people, and a good mood made the evening completely without a hangover effect, but just as fun.
After getting some sleep, we set off for the Grand Canyon the next morning, where the weather spoiled our arrival. Frequent rain showers with low-hanging clouds made the view difficult, but also created great new motifs for us as beginner models :) Every time Max sat on the edge, I had an uneasy feeling and let the caring mama in me wake up (Max, please don't get so close. That's enough now. Please come back a little). Despite the weather, it was a successful trip, although it is important to mention that none of our cameras capture images that can do justice to the uniqueness of Las Vegas or the Grand Canyon in a realistic way.
The next two days were a bit quieter in Vegas. Sports and the first Germany game were on the agenda before we continued moving towards the West Coast.
What happens in Vegas starts with booking the trip there. Vegas is a recommendation for all travel enthusiasts, as it combines relaxation, excitement, and uselessness in one place.
See you soon,
Tom (Max) & Jerry (Sascha)
