About kangaroos and koalas

Објавено: 20.10.2023

Today we went to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, a protected area for koals, but other animals also live in this park. The day started with feeding the lorikeets. You hold a bowl in your hand and the birds sit on the edge and eat from the bowl. Afterwards we saw a saltwater crocodile, which has scary stories to tell about its intelligence - I definitely wouldn't want to meet this animal. But the most dangerous animal that day was next to the crocodile, the cassowary. "If I had to choose between going to the crocodile or this one, I'd rather go to the crocodile. The chances of getting out alive are higher" 😬 In appearance, it looks like an ostrich or emu, but has a blue one shimmering neck and a horn on his head. It looks a bit like a dinosaur and is also called the last dinosaur because the species is so old.

In addition to dingoes, various monitor lizards, there are also wombats (well hidden), echidnas (also hidden) and of course kangaroos and koals in the park.

Seeing a koala so close is very impressive, but it's even more of a shame that they are threatened with extinction here. Their habitat is becoming smaller and smaller due to forest fires but also due to manure. Wherever new settlements are built, all trees are cut down, the settlement is built and then young trees are occasionally planted again!

The kangaroos live here in a large outdoor enclosure that you can enter. You can feed and pet the animals, but they also have cordoned off areas where we humans are not allowed. I can say: A kangaroo has cuddly soft fur and the food takes it very gently from your hand 🤩.
