The first stop is at the Gibson Steps. There you go down a staircase down the cliffs to the beach. The stairs actually look okay, but the steps are not straight but have unevenness. I notice that straight away too - just like that! Not on the ankle, but on the metatarsal 😬. So I sit on the stairs, hold my foot and listen to myself. Is everything OK with your foot? I'll try standing up, I have to keep walking... I then hobble down the stairs and hold on tightly to the railing.
Once at the bottom I have a great view of the sea and the first "stone sculptures". I'm walking along the beach and have to be very careful, because of the wind there's quite a swell and wet feet are the last thing I need today...
I've decided to go out to every viewing point today. So the journey continues to the 12 Apostles. They are up to 60m high limestone rocks standing in the sea. I don't know why these stones are called 12 Apostles, but they were never 12 rocks. There were 9 when the name was given, but in 2005 a rock collapsed due to erosion. The 12 Apsotles are the attraction on the Great Ocean Road and it shows. The parking lot is huge and as a result there are a lot of people at the viewing platform.
I stop 5 more times and each time I find a very nice view of the coast and with a lot fewer people. But at some point the 243km of the Great Ocean Road are covered and I move on to the next neighborhood, this time a little more inland, into the mountains to the Grampians.
