After kayaking in Marlborough Sound and encountering dolphins there, we wanted to get closer to them again. That's why we took the opportunity in Tauranga.
After about 50 minutes, we actually spotted a whole group of dolphins. The interesting thing is that they immediately attached themselves to our boat and swam around us the whole time. The water was incredibly clear, so we could see them very well. We even spotted some baby dolphins. So lovely <3.
They showed us some tricks and watched us from the water. Our skipper told us many very interesting details: about their way of communication (they give themselves names and call each other), their intelligence, and their social behavior. Dolphins are really special animals.
At noon, we dropped anchor in front of an island where we could cool off in the water a bit and our skipper prepared a delicious BBQ for us. For dessert, we had fresh raw sea urchins. They taste neutral but naturally salty.
