In the morning we leave our beautiful homestay in Phong Nha National Park and take the bus back to Dong Hoi. The city where we arrived by train a few days ago. There we have arranged to meet today with Lucas and Thomas, two friends from Wermelskirchen. Lucas has been on a world trip since December and started in southern Vietnam. Thomas has been on the road for five years and I haven't seen him since then. The two are traveling in the country with their own mopeds.
Max and I move into the family room in the hostel, which we share, and explore the city a bit. The sun even comes out a bit and we walk to the beach, just a few hundred meters from our hostel. It's not really bathing weather because it's too windy and the sea is too rough, but I'm still happy to FINALLY be back by the sea :) You can still splash your feet.
We walk along the sea for a while and later sit on the quay to watch the fishermen at work. It's a really interesting technique and they have round boats that look like an oversized wok.
In the afternoon we meet the guys at the hostel and I think it's so cool that we meet in the middle of Vietnam :-D We have been writing to each other for some time and thinking about the best place to meet, and we almost missed each other. But it worked out in the end and we are all very happy about it. Especially Thommy, I haven't seen him in 5 years and we meet again here, so far away from home. Wow, we are such jetsetters. Fun ;-) After we have discussed the essentials in the hostel and brought each other up to date a bit, we go out. Eating, drinking, chatting. It's a pity that our paths only cross for such a short time, but it was a nice evening :) We still get some tips for southern Vietnam and highly recommend the gentlemen to visit the national park we just came from.
Back at the hostel it feels like a school trip. Even when we finally lie in our beds and turn off the light, we still chat for ages because no one really wants to sleep. But unfortunately we have to get up early tomorrow.
Our train to Hue leaves at 8 and Thomas and Lucas will take us to the train station on their mopeds.
