So 3.10. Inari - Pielpajärvi Wildniskirche

Whakaputaina: 03.10.2021

Wechsel von Sonne und Wolken

Today we hike a 4.5 km trail from Inari to a wilderness church, according to the description.

The path is actually a proper hiking trail, with stones and roots but very wide and comfortable to walk. The landscape we pass through feels very prehistoric, with large to huge boulders lying around everywhere, as if giant trolls had thrown them there.

The ice age says hello. We hike alongside three different lakes, which are situated between 139 m and 141 m high.

We have a lot of sunshine and this hike is really fun. The path is very varied, not too difficult, and we can truly enjoy the sunshine, the fairytale-like forest, the many different views of lakes and mountain ranges, and the silence in nature.

When we arrive at the wooden church after 2 hours, we first have to open the shutters all around so that we have daylight in this beautiful old wooden church.

When we close the shutters, other people arrive who then take over the task of closing the shutters and wooden doors. We have our lunch break in a nearby hut. Another couple does the same and has already lit a fire.

For the return trip, we also need about 2 hours. Gerd takes fewer photos, but Gondula collects another bowlful of berries for dessert in the evening.

In the evening around 9:30 p.m., we set off again to look for a dark place to observe the Northern Lights. After about 15 minutes of walking, we find one in a village of huts, directly on the pier at Lake Inari. At first, we still have a starry sky and see the familiar green glow, although only above the horizon but relatively clear, then unfortunately the sky becomes overcast, the clouds get denser, and the Northern Lights disappear behind them. At least we saw it once again.
