And back to beautiful Albania, specifically to Berat - the city of a thousand windows!
Berat is situated on the Osum River (which unfortunately was too dirty to swim in at 43°C), was officially designated a museum city in 1961, and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008.
Despite the 43°C heat, Ronny ventured up the mountain to the viewpoint, which offers a beautiful view of the city.
Most of the time, Katha could be found like this in the intense heat:
For the past few weeks, we've always had either cat or dog food with us and have been able to make many animals happy in Berat as well!
Quick note: all the fun with animals loses its charm when you (Katha) wake up in the overheated room at night, disturbed by the broken air conditioning, and see 'cat-sized' creatures - I have no idea what they really were - darting out from under the bed and running out through the terrace door...
We will particularly remember Lili (and his wife, children, and square dog Bianco), with whom we spent two wonderful evenings! Not only does 'Lili's homemade food' offer the best traditional food, Lili himself is a unique person, the kindest person in the world, with so much dedication and passion, simply enchanting! Thank you Lili (we hope you read this), we wish you all the best!
And finally, the moment when the holiday mood shifted, captured in a photograph:
