1. Station Tenerife

Whakaputaina: 17.10.2021

Arrived at BER at 3:10. My flight departed at 6 am. The timing was pretty good. There were long queues everywhere at BER.

During the flight, I helped the elderly gentleman next to me with little things. Taking off his jacket, tightening his seatbelt, and reminding him to wear a mask.

Eventually, I made it through the flight, picked up my luggage, and stepped out into the sun. It felt quite 'inappropriate' to be in Tenerife without Charly here. Without visiting her. Like a year ago.

The first thing I managed to do was get on the wrong bus. Well, on this island, the bus travels a lot on the highway, and I already found it very unpleasant to walk along the highway and get to the bus stop in the middle of nowhere a year ago. During this mishap, I met a guy who was also heading in the wrong direction. He is on an educational vacation in Tenerife. It was less lost for me to be with someone.

An hour later than anticipated, I arrive at the ship. I can rest for a while. I meet Andrea, Matthias, Jan, and Lea. Sunday is a day off. Not much is happening today.

So people want to go to the beach right away, and I don't say no. Bathing in the Atlantic has always been a great thing.

During the bus ride, it turns out that Lea works as an editor for Radio1. Jan was involved in chemistry research. Matthias is a carpenter and environmental activist. Well, and Andrea has been living on this ship for a year?!

Unfortunately, Andrea will be leaving tomorrow. I already miss her. She is a very warm but energetic woman from northern Germany near Bremen. It is very pleasant to listen to her; she is very good at spinning yarns. She is a pretty complete package. She seems to have a lot of experience with ships. It would be great to have her on board.

In the evening, I got to know more and more people. They have all been hanging out on the island. But I went to bed quickly. I had only slept for two hours at night. So I was very tired.

The currently planned departure date is around the 29th, at the latest the 31st.

In the meantime, there seems to be a lot of work to look forward to.

I think that during the time we're here in the harbor, I'll upload things fairly regularly. About life on board, the hierarchies, the work, or the safety regulations. Stuff like that.
