Today we are driving from Visalia towards Mariposa, but shortly before that, turn right into Yosemite National Park, which is claimed to not be sooooo worth it because it looks like the Alps there 😜 But we wanted to see for ourselves 😁
The drive up was similar to Sequoia, long and winding. Like many others, we chose the famous Glacier Point as our viewpoint, which offers a spectacular view of Yosemite Valley, Yosemite Falls, and Half Dome. The Glacier Point Road is usually only open from June to October, otherwise closed due to snow and ice.
The view is truly impressive and, above all, dizzying 😱 You have a fantastic view over Yosemite Valley, the famous Half Dome rock, and a beautiful landscape in general 🏞
From Glacier Point, you can reach the Valley after about 20 minutes downhill. From below, the rocks look even more impressive.
The Valley is also a popular camping destination, almost every campground on the loop (you drive once in an oval) was fully packed. Nobody was impressed by the almost ubiquitous smell of fire in the air. Although we didn't see anything, there were apparently some small wildfires in parts of the park, which according to the park management were not critical. Shortly before our arrival, the park was completely closed due to devastating fires 😳
But the similarity to the Alps is indeed there 😜
