Next stop in Bali

Whakaputaina: 28.04.2017

The next day also looks relaxed. We enjoy life and especially the delicious food and smoothies on the beach in Jimbaran.

We try to communicate our plans for the next day to a private driver via Whatsapp. We have booked accommodation in Ubud from tomorrow and want to be taken there. So far, so good. But it seems that it is not that easy in Indonesia. Agung, the driver recommended to us, is convinced that he has to pick us up at the airport. A few hours before the agreed time, I receive a call from an Indonesian number via Whatsapp. A friend of Agung's. He tells me that Agung cannot come because he has to attend a "ceremony" and asks when he should pick us up from the airport.... ; ) Fortunately, Gede speaks good English, so I make it clear to him that we have been on Bali for 3 days already and that we just want to go from Jimbaran to Ubud. We agree on a pick-up time, Gede arrives on time and takes us to the inland city. He tells us a lot about the traditions of the Balinese people on the way, gives us some excursion tips and is happy to see that we are obviously interested in the country and its people. During the 1 ½ hour tour, we realize that it is good not to be driving with a rental car here. The traffic is adventurous and wild for Europeans. There are few traffic rules here. The larger car usually has the right of way and nothing goes without honking. If the space allows, a road with two lanes can easily become a road with three or four lanes.

Arriving in Ubud, we are warmly welcomed by our landlord Kadek. When we see the apartment that we will be living in for the next 6 days, we are amazed. Living room with kitchenette, bedroom, and two balconies overlooking the rice fields.

We borrow a scooter from Kadek and go into town to shop. In a supermarket, which is huge by Balinese standards, we buy fruit and an inexpensive smoothie maker. This way, we can make our own breakfast. Since there is extremely delicious fruit available on every corner, we think the blender is a good idea.
