A partnership with a school in the USA and an annual student exchange is something special. We are curious about our exchange partners and looking for common ground.
For some of us, it may have been surprising that there is a close connection in art between Saxony-Anhalt and Illinois: In 2019, the Bauhaus celebrates its 100th anniversary. The School of Design was founded in Weimar in 1919 and moved to Dessau in 1925. Its ideas about the industrial production of well-designed everyday products, architecture, and photography are known worldwide. Many Bauhaus artists and their students went into exile after its closure in 1933, including Walter Gropius and László Moholy-Nagy. Both had great success in the USA. In 1937, Moholy-Nagy founded the "New Bauhaus" in Chicago, which strongly influenced American photography. This is the reason for documenting our trip through photography and recording our experiences in the blog. Photos of our school, which strongly resemble the Bauhaus style, simultaneously show the connection to the student exchange.
