The last long car ride, just over two hours, to Kaikoura for the Whale Watch. The drive there was also scenically more appealing.
Sailing out with a jet boat towards the sea and a short time later the first sighting of a sperm whale, which then leisurely dived into the depths of the ocean with its tail up. On a detour to a rock near the coast with many sea lions, we also encountered some royal albatross. Later, a large group of dusky dolphins appeared, obviously having fun water jumping near the boat.
On the way back, another sperm whale appeared, which waved goodbye nicely with its tail fin.
