Yes, we are fine!

Whakaputaina: 16.02.2024

After we received a few requests (cautious, kind, very direct, ...) that we could finally give a sign of life again, here are pictures from the last two weeks.

Although Müsli thinks we don't have enough followers and don't have to write anything anymore. She checks the likes and comments on every WIFI we find.

It's unbelievable how time flies!

We particularly liked two places: Glenorchy and Wanaka. In Wanaka we took a small boat trip to "an island on a lake, on an island on a lake on an island in the sea". (Close your eyes and imagine this for a moment). She also has the beautiful name Mou Waho.

Our greatest joy was being able to observe the kea's in the wild. Although they also like to stay near a café in case there is an inattentive tourist who can steal something. But when the café was closed, we could also spot them in the trees around us.

We were able to watch glowworms for free after sunset at a campground on the west coast. The Kiwis usually take money for this too. So if you spot the photo where you think "have you tried taking a photo of the starry sky?!", then it's the glowworms!

We have now arrived in the north of the South Island and have clearly better weather, but of course slightly different vegetation.

We really enjoyed the hike in Abel Tasman Park, even though the sea was "significantly too cold" for swimming (~20 degrees water temperature). Someone has to look after the things and take the photos. ;-)

Another experience we had (whether you like it or not) was "one of the largest campsites in the southern hemisphere". Why do we make such descriptions? :-) But luckily it wasn't fully booked and we actually had a lot of peace and quiet - if it weren't for the airport right next door and the 24-hour construction site. You probably know that there are vehicles that beep when reversing... They felt like they were reversing all night long! :-D

Finally, the last two weeks for insiders and some who “want” to draw the route on a map:

Bluff - Glenorchy - Wanaka - Christchurch - Kaikoura - Hanmer Springs - Arthur's Pass - Hokitika - Pancake Rocks - Golden Bay - Abel Tasman Track (start in the north) - Nelson - Near Blenheim - Picton

You'll hear from us again, sometime. Then from the North Island and now I'm sending some more sun for the gray north of Germany!
