The Doi Inthanon National Park is located in the province of Chiang Mai. Unlike the Khao Sok National Park in southern Thailand, which combines one of the oldest rainforests in the world, the Doi Inthanon National Park has other features. Firstly, it is not characterized by karst areas. Secondly, the highest mountain in Thailand, with an elevation of 2565 meters above sea level, is located here.
Due to these high altitudes, temperatures vary greatly in this area. In the highest point, the temperature is around 5°C in the morning, and when we were there, it was 14°C. Therefore, the flora is not only composed of rainforests but also mixed forests.
At the beginning of our day tour through the national park, we visited 2 waterfalls. The rainbow that formed from the swirling water in the magnificent weather was particularly beautiful.
Afterwards, we visited a mountain village. The residents produce coffee, which is even purchased by the king. The women in the village are also allowed to weave beautiful cloths. What makes this village special are some customs. One of them is the clothing worn by the women. Before a woman is married, she wears a long white dress. The color white is meant to symbolize her innocence. After the wedding, which lasts for a total of 2-3 days, the women wear a red/pink top and a cloth as a skirt.
After a short visit to a market, we were served an oversized lunch. Starting with mushroom soup, followed by rice with chicken, vegetables, and/or fried mushrooms, and ending with watermelon and pineapple for dessert. There really was something for everyone here.
After lunch, we went to the temple mountain. Two temples were built there by the king: the Phra Mahathat Naphamethanidon and the Phra Mahathat Naphapholphumisiri. Both temples are located in a beautiful garden and the view over the mountains is simply heavenly.
