Gorontalo and Tomohon

Whakaputaina: 19.03.2020

However, the ferry ride, despite having our own deck chairs, is still tiring. But it safely brings us to Gorontalo, a Muslim-dominated coastal city.

We are welcomed warmly at Mimin's Homestay and upon inquiry, there is still a room available for us.

After settling in, we visit the local market and stock up on fruits and a stone mortar.

Apparently, cats as customers are not uncommon.

The next morning, we set out early to swim with whale sharks. We go 50 meters out to sea on a boat, the fisherman bangs on the boat planks three times, and a 6-meter-long fish, the largest in the world, appears next to us.

We put on our snorkeling gear and jump into the water:

To avoid confusion: whale shark on the right, Magnus on the left.

Simply stunning.

In the afternoon, we move to Mimin's bungalows near Lake Limboto. Set in the beautiful landscape, we enjoy peace and nature.

Invited for a walk to a volleyball game.

The next morning, due to the current situation, we decide to shorten our trip and book a flight to Singapore. However, we are still a 9-hour car ride away from the airport. We drive along the coast to the north, heading to Tomohon, where we arrive late at night.

The next morning, we yearningly look towards Mount Lokon, which we will no longer be able to climb.

Afterwards, we rush to the market to spend our remaining rupiah before we have to leave Sulawesi.

And finally, we board the plane to Singapore at noon in Manado...
