Bathing flop and wedding spot

Whakaputaina: 15.01.2018

To escape the heat in the streets of Merida, we went to Progreso. This small town is a popular vacation destination for the locals. However, when we arrived, it was completely deserted. The restaurants were almost all closed and the lounge chairs were piled up in the corners. It's currently peak tourist season, but the Mexicans themselves prefer to go away in the summer.

We didn't let that discourage us and enjoyed the empty beach. After 3 hours of roasting in the sun, our mood was down. We couldn't even find a small bar to buy drinks.

So we packed up our towels and spontaneously drove to a nearby hacienda. These haciendas are old residences of wealthy Spanish colonial lords. They processed sisal and became rich from it. We visited Hacienda Teja and enthusiastically explored the grounds. Huge halls and gardens full of flowers and palm trees make this place a perfect wedding venue. Lots of white flower decorations and a small church on the premises clearly showed the many weddings celebrated here.
