Königsee, a trip you won't forget!

Whakaputaina: 15.06.2018

Sweaty and full of anticipation, my friend and I sit on the last bus to Königssee. From Salzburg to Berchtesgaden, one transfer and then 15 minutes further to Königsee. I have high expectations.

The pictures on the internet are full of beauty. Sparkling water, small boats, and high mountains all around. It looked truly idyllic. I'm really looking forward to it. Finally arrived. We get off. We still have a little walk to do. Just follow the crowd. The sun is scorching. I can feel myself starting to sweat and I'm already looking forward to the cooler climate at the lake. We pass through a small, cozy shopping street. We'll have time to shop later, for now let's go to the lake. Once we arrive, we are faced with a ticket booth and a small lake. The lake doesn't look like it does in the photo. We get closer to the ticket booth and realize that we need to book a boat trip to see more of the Königssee. I'm quite disappointed that they want to collect money first before showing us more. Especially since the boat trip costs 25 euros. Well, we've come all this way, it would be foolish to turn back now. So we take out our wallets and pay obediently. After a 2-hour wait, we board the small boat that we share with about 30 passengers. We set off and are not disappointed by the breathtaking landscape. Absolute silence, high mountains, a waterfall, and lots of nature. I don't think I've seen anything more beautiful. It's a magical boat trip. When the captain plays the trumpet to demonstrate the echo in the mountains, the moment is perfect. Everyone in the boat listens eagerly and seems to enjoy these few seconds as much as I do. We head towards a small island called Bartolomé. Its trademark is the church with two red towers. We dock and have 2 hours to explore the island. The island is located in the middle of the Königssee and can only be reached by boat. A man who also runs a fish store on the island lives in a small house on Bartolomé. I imagine this life to be great. You live alone on an island, have your own store, and in the high season, thousands of tourists come every day. When the evening sun appears, you have peace again. The same routine every day. My friend and I first buy a pretzel and something to drink. The prices are acceptable. A pretzel costs 4 euros, but it's really big and very tasty. The highlight of the island is the Watzmann. The second highest mountain in Germany. Climbing it takes a 12-hour hike. Only for experienced mountain climbers. We sit by the shore and enjoy the tranquility and the beautiful view. I believe there is no other peaceful and idyllic place in Germany like this one.

You have everything your heart desires. Water, nature, and mountains. We explore the small island a little more and take a walk on the mainland. Everywhere there are meadows and small cabins that make this atmosphere perfect. The two hours fly by and we drive back to the pier. I won't forget this little trip. This place is something very special, it changes you.

You have time to find yourself and simply forget all worries and problems and enjoy the here and now to the fullest.
