... in the far north of the island lies the city of Manado, yes I am now in Sulawesi. Sulawesi! It already sounds exotic and refreshing to me. And that's exactly how it is, I reach Manado Airport in the evening and everything looks very inviting to me on the 1-hour drive to the center. Maybe it's because this part of Indonesia is more influenced by Christianity than Islam, you can see a lot of churches here and comparatively few mosques compared to other parts of the country that I have seen so far.
On the same evening, I had myself taken to some good fish restaurants and immediately enjoyed some excellent and very fresh tuna, "delicious".
In the morning of the next day, I took the time for a short walk through the streets of the city. Besides a few Chinese temples, some beautiful churches, I then reached a street opposite the old harbor where I met a lot of nice residents. I would estimate that in the 10-minute walk, I was greeted and welcomed friendly with "Hey Mister, Hello Mister" about 100 times. Happy ;-)
In the afternoon, I packed up and made my way to the pier for the "public" boats for the 1-hour crossing to the offshore island "Pulau - Bunaken" where I will spend my next few days in a very relaxed way.
