Heading down to Queenstown, along the west coast

Whakaputaina: 13.05.2024

The French, Cap, Diane, Lou, and Soulin as well as the Spaniard Lide have roughly the same route as Madlen and I, which led us to meet again for surfing in Westport🥳🥳 at the beginning I had to get used to the waves again, but I quickly got the hang of it. The waves were very strong and at times quite intense, which led to being carried away and tossed around. I felt like I was almost drowning twice.🥲🥲Especially when my hair tie came loose and my hair kept getting in my face, making it feel like waterboarding.😀 After surfing, we went to a campsite that had a dog, which was also trained in German because the owners were German. I miss Rico a lot, so it was very nice to play with a dog again. The next day we met the French and Lide at the Pancake Rocks. We looked at them and then went to have some. Just a few minutes away from the Pancake Rocks was a cave that we also visited, and then went to the beach. The weather was very unsettled, so we only stayed briefly at the beach and quickly drove to the car park, where we all cooked and ate together. When it got dark, we went to a glowworm cave.

A very eventful day

Our next stop on our route is the Franz Josef Glacier. It was very foggy, so unfortunately we couldn't see much of the glacier. Besides, Lide also took a job in the town in front of the glacier. So we had to say goodbye to her. With the French, we continued to Wanaka. Except for the Wanaka Tree, there wasn't much to see there, so we soon headed to Queenstown. Queenstown is a very beautiful and lively city. Unfortunately, we couldn't really experience the city's nightlife since we were camped a bit far away and hostels are just too expensive.🥲🥲
