Liverpool has a lot to offer

Whakaputaina: 07.07.2018

Well, what can I say, Liverpool has a lot more to offer for my taste than I can see in a few days.

But since I chose Liverpool mainly because of the Beatles, it was the first choice to visit places related to the Beatles. First, I visited the Beatles Story Exhibition at the beautiful Royal Albert Dock, a well-designed museum with multimedia guide through the entire history of the Beatles. Then I went to the Cavern Club, where the band had their first major performances. Since the replica of the basement was easier to photograph, the pictures are from the museum and not from the Cavern Club itself. However, the club still looks about the same but is no longer in its original location. The club was moved a few meters.

In the afternoon, I watched a concert by Jay Murray and the Shakers at the Cavern Club and then went back to the Royal Albert Dock, which offers an extraordinary variety of leisure activities.

On one hand, there were old sailing ships to explore or admire, Takeshi's Castle-like obstacle courses at the Adventure Dock, unfortunately only for children :-D, a ferris wheel, and the Echo Arena for concerts, which I didn't attend. But there was also a beautiful view of the River Mersey and a fantastic view of the museum quarter with its futuristic buildings.

Then I visited the Museum of Liverpool, which also includes a large Beatles exhibition, of course, in addition to many other exciting topics.

From the museum, you could also see the sold-out Liverpool FEIS 2018 Irish music festival. Unfortunately, there was very little to hear in the museum. However, due to the special shapes of the buildings in the area, the acoustics in front of the museum were very good, so I listened to a few bands like Van Morrison, Damien Dempsey, and The Dublin Legends from there. In between, I watched the quarter-final England-Sweden in a hopelessly overcrowded pub (of course, all the pubs were crowded...). Well, the atmosphere was fantastic!

I think that was quite a program for today, so I didn't feel like going to the Casbah Coffee Club, where the almost complete lineup of the Beatles (Ken Brown instead of Ringo Starr) helped with the painting and decoration and also gave their first joint concerts. The Casbah is a bit outside, so I have to see if I will visit it.

Cheers!
