Tag 108 - Sleepless in...

Whakaputaina: 20.02.2018

My first lesson today in the project, at 1:00 pm, started much later. Luis had tried to wake up a little girl who had already fallen fast asleep during the previous lesson. Nothing worked. In the end, he let her keep sleeping, with her head resting on the table, undisturbed by the commotion around her. A little later, her older sister, who had been called for, carried her out of the classroom. "Older" is relative here: the tired mouse is maybe 5 or 6 years old, her sister is probably 7 or 8. The little one was placed on her feet, helpful hands fiddled with putting her shoes on, and then she trudged home holding her sister's hand.

Some children already seem so mature to me. Six-year-olds know how to do the laundry or clean the house. Some can cook at the age of ten, although they may not necessarily be able to read and write. The contrast between their everyday knowledge and their academic performance is sometimes so drastic that I am repeatedly shaken to the core. Just like Xiomera, who can't even remember that 5 + 1 is the same as 1 + 5.
