The South of the South

Whakaputaina: 12.06.2017

Not far from Queenstown is the sleepy town of Wanaka, also known as 'quieter Queenstown', as it is also surrounded by mountains and a large lake.

The highlight there is Roy's Peak, a mountain a few kilometers outside.

To reach its summit from the starting point, one must overcome 1300 meters of elevation over a distance of 16km.

An exhausting undertaking, but the view from the top compensates for all the efforts.

Before we headed to the East Coast, we spent the weekend in Queenstown.

On Monday morning, we took the bus to Dunedin, the second largest city on the South Island, famous for two reasons; its countless students and its Scottish flair.

Like many cities in New Zealand, Dunedin is also located directly by the sea, so a mandatory visit to the beach was on our itinerary.

We also took part in a brewery tour organized by Speights and learned a lot about various beer styles and their resulting flavors.

Another attraction in Dunedin is Baldwin Street, which is the steepest residential street in the world and definitely deserves this accolade!

After our relaxing stay in this beautiful city, we took the bus north along the East Coast.
