11. Etappe nach León

Whakaputaina: 11.11.2023

I woke up early again. And then I left the room at 5:15. There's only a short stretch today and I could have slept a little longer, but once I'm awake, it's difficult for me to fall asleep again. Of course, I always try to be quiet and make as little light and noise as necessary. Unfortunately, others are often not so considerate, but that's not why I change. Anyway, I packed everything up in the lounge and ate a few cookies and a mini muffin. I left at 6 a.m. and after the city we went back into the forest near a highway in the dark. Despite the headlight, I stumbled slightly twice because of the pebbles. I have to be careful not to twist my ankle, because then I'll definitely have to take a longer break. In any case, I went through a village where everyone was still asleep. And then you felt like you were already in León. It's roughly comparable to Burgos, where you can already see the city, but it's still 9km. But this time I was able to really take my time because I have accommodation right in the city center by the cathedral. I didn't meet anyone else on the way. At the beginning you go through an industrial area again, where you then get further and further into the city center. It was already cool outside. I like the atmosphere of the city. The old town is really beautiful and since I still have enough energy, I will definitely explore the city later. Now I'm straight to the cathedral. For €6 you could see this masterpiece from the 13th century. And I have to say: it was worth it. The basically Gothic church has so many beautiful and large windows and you could listen to an audio guide in German on your cell phone. It was said that in the past the church often had problems due to the risk of collapse. Since the church has many domes, there were always problems during construction work and the best minds were always hired for restorations. According to my guide, the most beautiful cathedral on the way. I definitely found it worthwhile. Afterwards I walked a bit through the old town and got a coffee with a Berliner to relax. I'll go straight to my accommodation, take a shower and then explore the city a bit. But I'm tired right now and since it started to rain, I'm staying in the café. I will get back to you later.
