Québec - A Winter's Tale

Whakaputaina: 10.03.2019

After spending almost the entire day yesterday at the airport and on the plane, picking up Henni in Toronto, I am reporting today from the beautiful winter wonderland of Québec.

The view from our hotel room is amazing. We are right in the heart of Old Québec, which is very beautiful but also very small. After a short walk along the St. Lawrence River under a bright blue sky, we had a history lesson planned with a visit to the Citadel.

Since we quickly realized that there isn't a whole lot to see in the city and most of the recommended highlights are outside, we spontaneously decided to rent a car. Using public transportation would be too inconvenient here.

We then drove to the Montmorency Falls by car. It was really cool. And I have to admit, it was also more impressive than the Niagara Falls. We started at the top and could see people below walking on ice and snow right up to the waterfall. In the summer, it's usually all water. It's really impressive to see how this mega-wide river is completely frozen over.

We definitely didn't want to miss this spectacle! So we quickly got in the car, drove down, and off we went through deep snow. And of course, as you might expect, I tore my jeans while climbing over the fence...

Henni had received a recommendation from her colleagues to do a maple syrup tasting at the so-called Sugar Shacks. So that's what we looked next. Driving through snow in parts (always hoping that our little Hyundai would bring us back safely). Unfortunately, we were not successful. Apparently, they only do it here with advance reservation.

Slightly frustrated and, above all, hungry, we headed back to the city. Easier said than done, though. Since we had to find a way first. Many streets towards Old Québec were closed due to some event.

But we eventually found a way. For dinner, we had a very delicious 3-course fondue consisting of cheese, meat (Bison is really tasty), and chocolate.
