Day 24: Oregon Dunes and Sutton

Whakaputaina: 27.06.2018

We start our day with a hike through the lagoon. Rene says it's more of a puddle than a lagoon. The path leads to a small trail along the river to the ocean. We decide to follow it. It's a nice route. Unfortunately, the last part of the path is closed, the water has washed it away. Now we have to walk on a sandy path to the beach. That's an extra 1.2 km. The path is challenging because the sand is very soft. An earlier trail is closed due to bird nests. Finally, we reach the beach and we are rewarded with seals. They are lazily lying on the beach. We stay for a while and observe the animals. Then we start our way back. The sun is shining and it's a beautiful route. Then we leave the campsite and drive to Florence. I need to quickly go online while Rene prepares lunch. After that, we drive another 15 kilometers north. We are near our campsite for the night. Rene wants to take a nap, so we park and all take a 1 1/2-hour nap. Sometimes you just need it. After that, we want to go to the beach. Unfortunately, the path only leads to a viewpoint and not to the beach. The wind has picked up and is blowing strongly. Erik really wants to dig. So we drive another 15 minutes. The beach is beautiful, but the wind is so strong that it's not enjoyable to sit. We walk a bit, and Rene is cold. He's only wearing a sweater and shorts. Fortunately, I still have my jacket. We are back at the car shortly before 5 o'clock and quickly return to the campground. I prepare dinner while Rene looks for the dump stations with the boys. Dumping is the emptying of our water tanks. Unfortunately, there is no option on site. Our gray water tank is almost full. I still want to shower and hope that it's still possible. The wind is still strong. Although we are protected at the campground, I don't want to sit outside today. We retreat indoors.
