Cycled to Methoni. Last night we made jokes that the 10 km to get there are probably very hilly and today we actually face the mountain stage of the Tour de France. With headwind! But my silverback cycles bravely ahead, unfortunately unable to respond to any beautiful things I point out along the way... On a rocky peninsula in Methoni, the walls of the first Venetian fortress on the Peloponnese rise. In the 15th century, more than 2000 people lived under the protection of the fortress, nothing remains of their houses, the charm of the fortress lies in its size and its location directly by the sea. After visiting the site, we cycle to the beach and have a frappé in the only beach bar. It's located slightly elevated and has a beautiful view of the sea. Then we go back over the mountains... We decide to continue the next day and since you're supposed to pay the day before at this campsite, Martin goes to the reception. When we arrived, a man who we internally call the sheriff (he looks like a cowboy: black jeans, black shirt, black boots, always wearing sunglasses, and hair gelled upwards) handled the check-in process. When paying, only the assistant sheriff is there, he informs Martin that it costs 29 € per night, but unfortunately the card machine is broken, so the price is reduced to 25 € per night (we were there for 3 nights). Martin then puts down 2 x 50 €, the guy doesn't have any change, so Martin takes back one 50 € note and puts down a 20 € note, that's the only way he can do it. The assistant sheriff collects the 70 € and says it's okay... Works for us too... In the evening we cycle back to Finikounda and have a delicious meal and a nice evening...
