Puerto Viejo, 4/18/22 - Pura Vida

Whakaputaina: 18.04.2022

After a 4-hour transfer, we arrived in Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean coast. The first impression of the hotel is mixed, but as soon as we settled in, there it is: the vacation feeling, or as the Ticos say: Pura Vida! 😁

What initially seems a bit 'rammelig' (let's not talk about the mold in the bathroom and stuff, hey, we're on the Caribbean coast, we don't want to spend the day in the room...), turns out to be a top-notch jungle hotel. We didn't have to search for the animals, they found us: on the first day, Sebastian spotted a poison dart frog right next to the reception, and while we were still amazed, a hummingbird flew by. Later, we hang out in the pool, monkeys are swinging above us, and we spot our first sloth! We read about it, but seriously, is this real? It's like being in a zoo! (@Colleagues, zoo in a positive sense, not how I usually use the term, of course😁)

But of course, we weren't lazy the whole day, we rented bikes, expertly attached luggage rack protection and footrests for Sebastian, and cycled to the Jaguar Rescue Center. Along the main road, that's how it goes here.

The Jaguar Rescue is a hospital and rescue center for all kinds of wildlife that have been injured or are in need. Max, a volunteer from Colorado, humorously and informatively informs us about the process on a tour. It's relatively boring for Sebastian, as the tour is in English and we feel like we're standing in front of each enclosure forever, but with synchronous translation, he manages to endure it. After about 40 degrees, 90% humidity, and 1.40 hours with a face mask, we drag ourselves to the restaurant on the beach across the street, and afterwards, Sebastian enthusiastically sets up a crab station.

When we return to our hotel, all we want is one thing: the pool. And right away.

We end the evening with Margherita, local Pale Ale, pizza, and ceviche, and then we put Sebastian to bed before he falls asleep with his face in his food 😉
