To the Nordkapp over Christmas and New Year's Eve

Publicēts: 25.12.2023

Day 1+2 or bankruptcies, bad luck and mishaps

“Home fades, the world draws near” JRR Tolkien

Finally the time has come!
We've been waiting three long years for the chance to go to the Nordkapp in winter. Now it's finally starting.
Since I was already on vacation on Wednesday, December 22nd, 2023, I had the honor of packing the camper and preparing the house for our absence. So I had until Friday, December 22nd. also have your hands full.
Our adventure finally started at 5 p.m. and we headed north on the A5.
We arrived on Fehmarn at midnight and looked for a parking space, which we found quickly.
And then the shock: We wanted to turn on the lights and heating and were horrified to find that the battery was deeply discharged.
We connected our emergency generator, ran the engine, checked all the fuses and cables, but nothing could be done.
The battery is dead.
We went to bed sad and disappointed and found it difficult to sleep.

The next day we thought about what to do and quickly came to the conclusion that driving home wasn't an option and we needed a replacement battery.
The odyssey began. We drove to a hardware store, several gas stations and a campsite. He referred us to a camping outfitter that was still open (it was the day before Christmas and hardly any shops were still open).
Salvation was there. We got hold of the last AGM battery in his range for a whopping €250 and immediately installed it on the side of the road.
The journey could finally continue.
At half past 12 we were on the ferry, which promptly left and headed out to the Fehmarnbelt.
Three quarters of an hour later we reached Denmark and the journey continued.
When we arrived in Sweden near Malmö, we encountered the first mini snowstorm.
At around 7 p.m. we reached our parking spot for the night near the E4 near the town of Mjölby.
The next piece of bad news didn't take long to arrive: the auxiliary heater wouldn't start with error code H02...
After a quick search on the internet we knew what the error meant.
This can be a very time-consuming repair.
Luckily Annika could hear gurgling noises from the fresh air intake and an idea came to me.
I quickly slipped into my “work clothes” and loaded my body under the camper armed with tools.
I loosened the suction and all the water that was blocking the hose came running out.
The heating worked again and all was right with the world again.
This is how our second day ends and we fell asleep peacefully.
