Today is a chill day!
Of course, it starts with sleeping in 😅
After breakfast, we go snorkeling at Ahihi Cove again. We see lots of colorful fish, but unfortunately also a lot of sea urchins, which is why my son ends snorkeling early and waits outside. It's almost 12 o'clock when we want to go to Big Beach again. We had a lot of fun at the beach here on the first day. Unfortunately, we are greeted by several signs with "Dangerous Shoreline" and an assortment of red flags right on the beach. Darn it! The waves are much higher today than on the first day and there are only a few brave swimmers in the water. Okay, plan B.
We drive back down the road, past Ahihi Cove and continue to the Lava Fields. There are signs here that swimming with dolphins is prohibited.
Oh, there are dolphins here!? Well, swimming doesn't look inviting right now...
We walk the path through the lava fields to a blowhole, where the water whistles through when there's a higher wave. After the walk through the lava fields, we discover a huge dead pufferfish and another "snake-like" dead fish at the water near the parking lot. Yuck... 😰
Unfortunately, we don't see any dolphins.
On the way back to the condo, we stop at the roadside at Big/Makena Beach. There's a different food truck here than last time, so we try it. They have fish tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and taco salads again. Delicious! Today, we only spend $50 for 4 dishes (without drinks).
We take our food back to the condo and eat it comfortably on the balcony overlooking the beach park. My son and I jump in the pool for an hour afterwards.
Later, my husband and daughter venture into the waves at the beach park across the street. There are red flags here too, as well as a warning about high waves. The lifeguard occasionally announces that we should stay away from the rocks. Hmm, so there's no swimming ban. The waves are too big for my son and me, so we prefer to watch the rest of the family getting their noses flushed.
After sunset at the beach park, we have dinner on the terrace. A chill day is pretty nice too 😄
